About the role

  • Join SMUD IT GIS team to maintain, support, and improve the enterprise GIS platform
  • Provide technical support for ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and related GIS applications
  • Assist with system administration tasks: user management, service publishing, and performance monitoring
  • Support GIS integration with other enterprise systems (work management, asset management, customer service tools)
  • Perform data updates, quality checks, and process automation to maintain spatial data accuracy
  • Troubleshoot user-reported issues and coordinate resolutions with the GIS team
  • Contribute to documentation, workflows, standard operating procedures, testing, upgrades, and deployment of GIS applications and services
  • Perform basic business processes and technical support under close supervision across enterprise technology solutions

Requirements

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Required: At least 1+ year of relevant enterprise applications design/maintenance experience OR 6 months as a SMUD intern OR 3+ years within a business unit
  • Knowledge of enterprise application systems design, system development lifecycle, data modeling, SQL, scripting, report design, administration, and database maintenance
  • Familiarity with complex computer systems, electronic records, and database administration techniques
  • Skills: troubleshooting, problem-solving, prioritization, documentation, testing, and user support
  • Desirable: Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Desirable: Understanding of core GIS concepts (spatial data, coordinate systems, map services)
  • Desirable: Familiarity with Esri software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise)
  • Desirable: Basic SQL and relational database knowledge
  • Desirable: Experience with Python scripting for GIS/process automation
  • Desirable: Exposure to enterprise IT environments (databases, servers, networking, cloud)
  • Desirable: Internship, project work, or 1+ years of professional GIS experience
  • Desirable: Knowledge of utility or infrastructure data models
