• The SES AI Department is seeking an Electrolyte Scientist to join our team dedicated to mobile energy storage. This scientist will be responsible for creating innovative electrolyte materials and systems that enable safe, long-lasting, and high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries.
• Key duties include designing, developing, and optimizing electrolyte formulations, as well as meticulously analyzing their interactions with other cell components during battery cycling and storage.

Senior Scientist, Electrolyte

• Conduct and oversee DFT (Density Functional Theory), MD (Molecular Dynamics), and QM (Quantum Mechanics) simulations of battery components, including electrolytes, coatings, and electrodes.
• Develop and refine ML-enhanced force fields and surrogate models to accelerate simulation time scales and enable multi-scale simulation efforts.
• Apply expertise in atomistic simulation and quantum modeling to solve key challenges in electrochemical energy materials (e.g., batteries/fuel cells).
• Generate high-quality, structured simulation data to serve as training sets for AI property prediction models and material screening modules.
• Contribute to the development of battery domain LLM features and advanced property-prediction models.
• Automate complex simulation workflows using strong coding practices to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Collaborate with experimental teams, leveraging a hybrid computational + experimental literacy to validate models and drive design iteration.

Computational Materials Scientist

• R&D Program Leadership
• Direct complex electrolyte R&D programs focused on next-generation battery systems, ensuring alignment with customer and product requirements (e.g., safety, cyclability, low/high temperature performance).
• Lead multi-R&D teams composed of chemists, data scientists, and engineers to achieve key innovation milestones.
• Define the materials innovation roadmap, particularly related to electrolyte formulation and interfacial science.
• Experimental Validation & Data Generation
• Oversee SEI (Solid Electrolyte Interphase) engineering and additive optimization programs, leveraging expertise in fundamental materials chemistry.
• Lead cell-level validation and the integration of new electrolytes into prototype cells.
• Produce high-quality, experimentally validated battery component data, guiding AI model training by ensuring data quality, experimental reproducibility, and comprehensive parameter space coverage (Data-driven experimentation).
• AI Integration & Tools
• Utilize molecular informatic tools to accelerate battery component optimization cycles, effectively bridging experimental data with AI-generated candidates.

Battery Electrolyte Scientist – Materials Chemistry Leader

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
• Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, including variance analysis and management reporting.
• Support the quarterly and annual external audit process by preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor requests.
• Assist with accounting and reporting for multiple domestic and international entities, including consolidation activities and intercompany transactions.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual variances or reconciling items.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Assist in researching and documenting technical accounting issues and new accounting standards under U.S. GAAP.
• Support ERP system enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
• Assist with accounts payable, payroll, tax, and other accounting-related processes as needed.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Operations, Treasury, International Finance, and other cross-functional teams to support business objectives.
• Identify accounting issues and work with management to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and disclosure.

• Fully execute and lead key HR initiatives that support SES’s corporate vision; diagnose organizational challenges and implement effective action plans.
• Partner with leadership to identify competency, knowledge, and talent gaps. Develop and execute targeted programs to build a robust talent pipeline for future business success.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and leadership regarding company policies, values, compensation, and benefits, ensuring consistent policy interpretation.
• Collaborate closely with the recruiting team to streamline hiring and onboarding processes.
• Monitor and ensure all company activities and policies are strictly compliant with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
