About the role
- Diagnose and repair faults on freight wagons
- Respond to emergencies including derailments and brake issues
- Carry out inspections and scheduled maintenance
- Support technical operations during on-call hours
- Collaborate with terminal staff and train operators
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Full UK driving licence
- Fault-finding and repair experience
- Strong communication and IT skills
- Willingness to work unsociable hours and travel
- HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4 (desirable)
- Knowledge of brake systems, couplers, and running gear (desirable)
- PTS or equivalent site access certification (desirable)
- Full training (12–16 weeks), tools, and PPE provided.
- Work in a supportive team of two during on-call shifts.
- Be part of lean initiatives and continuous improvement.
