About the role

  • Utilize and expand academic background in Structural Engineering on nuclear projects
  • Team with engineers and designers from various disciplines for design of new nuclear facilities, plant betterment, and associated modifications
  • Prepare design calculations, develop specifications, and support designers with drawing development
  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, and foundations using state-of-the-art computer tools
  • Conduct structural analyses including loading conditions such as wind and seismic
  • Receive training and mentorship from experienced structural design engineers
  • Potential travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs
  • Hybrid role requiring in-office work 3 days per week

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 1 or more years of applicable experience, or an MSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
  • Strong academic background and interest in behavior of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design
  • Knowledge of the practical application of structural engineering
  • Knowledge of structural design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training (valued, not required)
  • MSCE degree (valued, not required)
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS (valued, not required)
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI (valued, not required)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; employer does not sponsor work authorization for this position
  • Ability/potential to travel to client and vendor offices and plant sites for design reviews and construction coordination
