About the role

  • Partner with HR and Creative Leadership on workforce planning, compensation strategy, and organizational design
  • Set the strategic vision for web and brand design across Slack's digital ecosystem, defining how design drives business outcomes
  • Oversee and shape design strategy for major product launches, events, and flagship brand moments
  • Establish design principles, quality standards, and review processes that ensure craft excellence at scale
  • Drive innovation in web experiences while balancing brand consistency, conversion goals, and user needs
  • Build, lead, and scale a high-performing organization of web and brand designers, establishing clear team structure, roles, and career pathways
  • Develop and mentor design managers and senior ICs, creating a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning
  • Define and evolve team rituals, operational cadences, and feedback mechanisms that drive both individual growth and collective impact
  • Lead strategic recruiting initiatives to build a diverse, world-class design organization that reflects our values and ambitions
  • Serve as a strategic partner to VP-level stakeholders across Brand & Creative, Product Marketing, Growth, Product Design, Engineering and Salesforce creative leadership
  • Shape go-to-market strategies and digital experiences that drive customer acquisition, engagement, and conversion
  • Build strong partnerships with Customer Acquisition, Growth, and Product teams to align on shared goals and metrics
  • Lead executive-level presentations and design reviews, influencing product and business strategy through design thinking
  • Collaborate with external agencies and partners to deliver integrated, best-in-class campaigns
  • Establish design operations frameworks that enable the team to deliver consistently excellent work efficiently
  • Drive capacity planning, portfolio prioritization, and resource allocation across competing initiatives
  • Define and implement design systems, documentation standards, and cross-functional workflows
  • Build measurement frameworks to demonstrate design impact on business and user outcomes
  • Champion process innovation and AI strategies that increase team velocity and quality

Requirements

  • 12+ years of design experience with 5+ years leading and scaling design teams
  • Mastery of web and brand design, with deep understanding of design systems, accessibility, responsive design, and emerging web technologies
  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, craft excellence, and measurable business impact
  • Proven ability to drive design strategy for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives from vision through execution
  • Strong technical fluency with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Webflow, Adobe Creative Suite) and understanding of front-end development
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling design organizations, developing talent, and fostering inclusive, high-performing cultures
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication and storytelling abilities - able to influence and inspire at all levels of the organization
  • Strategic thinker who connects design decisions to business outcomes, user needs, and brand goals
  • Systems thinker who can balance short-term execution with long-term vision and organizational capability building
  • Thrives in ambiguity, complexity, and fast-paced environments; able to drive clarity and momentum
  • Proven ability to build trusted partnerships with senior leadership and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders
  • Track record of influencing product and business strategy through design thinking and customer insights
  • Experience leading through influence in matrixed organizations
