About the role

  • Analyze high-profile entities and complex situations to assess financial projections and resolve challenging analytical scenarios.
  • Lead rating decisions with sound judgment and clarity, guiding the team in maintaining analytical rigor.
  • Meet with issuers and investors to discuss analytical matters and resolve client needs.
  • Present confidently to rating committees, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Publish timely industry commentaries and write sector reviews and thought leadership pieces.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Midwest local government structures, funding mechanisms, and political dynamics.
  • Guide and support junior analysts, providing constructive feedback to enhance their analytical capabilities.
  • Establish and lead the development of rating policies and methodologies, ensuring adherence to analytical guidelines and quality standards.
  • Represent S&P Global Ratings at external meetings, effectively communicating our analytical perspectives.
  • Lead initiatives for operational and process improvements, maintaining a focus on analytical excellence and risk management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in the Public Finance sector.
  • Proven ability to mentor analysts and elevate team-wide analytical rigor.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, for stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Commitment to adhering to established analytical guidelines and quality standards.
  • Experience with Midwest regional government credit analysis.
  • Ability to contextualize credit decisions within broader economic and policy trends.
  • Familiarity with local government funding mechanisms and political dynamics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
