About the role
- Develop, manage, and oversee merchant activities for company‑related assets within the Long Island, NY market area.
- Support additional Market Area Directors as needed to maximize revenue opportunities across other market regions.
- Create and execute market‑area strategies to optimize asset-value generation and overall commercial performance.
- Coordinate community engagement activities and manage external interactions associated with the market area.
- Collaborate closely with operational, financial, legal, and business development teams to ensure alignment and effective execution of commercial initiatives.
- Apply strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to influence cross‑functional decision‑making and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Maintain a deep working knowledge of waste markets, industry participants, and market dynamics, gained through direct field experience.
- Lead market strategy development, competitive analysis, financial budgeting, forecasting, and proforma modeling.
- Manage profit and loss responsibilities for assigned assets or business segments.
- Oversee complex contract management activities, including negotiation, execution, and renewal of agreements.
- Lead municipal contracting initiatives by evaluating opportunities, coordinating multidisciplinary bid responses, and participating in negotiations.
- Manage and grow relationships with senior municipal and commercial clients, ensuring high‑quality customer engagement and contract performance.
- Apply strong commercial business acumen to support strategic growth, pricing, and market positioning.
- Demonstrate supervisory‑level management skills through effective leadership, planning, financial oversight, and operational coordination.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business finance, preferred, but a minimum of an associate's degree or technical degree with prior business experience is required.
- A minimum of 7 years of waste industry experience
- Solid analytical and organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive thinking with a detail-oriented and creative problem-solving approach
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and employees of all levels and across various corporate disciplines.
- Strong planning and interpersonal skills.
