Responsible for the configuration, administration, and ongoing support of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
Lead defined scopes of work, coordinate delivery teams, and interface directly with client stakeholders to ensure effective tool adoption and alignment with engineering standards and project requirements.
Act as the single point of contact and SME for SPI.
Install product software, hot fixes, and patches (in collaboration with client IT groups where needed).
Configure SPI in accordance with client and/or project standards, including symbology, catalog/reference data, reporting templates, naming conventions, and drawing borders.
Setup and manage user groups, profiles, and access permissions.
Configure and manage scheduled services and procedures (e.g., backups, design checkers).
Perform database integrity checks, quality audits, and manage corrective actions.
Backup and restore SPI databases and reference data.
Develop user and administrator documentation, including work instructions, procedures, and manuals.
Create and maintain design tool instructions to support business processes.
Ensure system configuration and deliverables comply with client standards and procedures.
Provide desk-side and remote support to end users.
Develop training materials and deliver training sessions for administrators and end users.
Mentor client stakeholders to build capability in SPI.
Create and manage reports, drawings, templates, and documents.
Load and maintain material/reference data catalogs.
Perform data extraction, import/export, and support data migration activities.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of project data throughout the engineering information lifecycle.
Collaborate with system integration experts to develop interfaces and integration methods with other business systems.
Support management of change (MOC) processes to ensure updates are reflected in SPI.
Identify opportunities to improve end-user performance and reduce costs.
Lead assigned scopes of work, ensuring delivery aligns with client standards, schedules, and priorities.
Act as the primary client-facing technical leader, building strong relationships with engineering stakeholders, EPCs, and vendors.
Provide strategic input and technical recommendations to client leadership, influencing tool adoption and process improvement.
Mentor and guide delivery team members to ensure high-quality, consistent outcomes across projects.
Requirements
Proven hands-on experience administering and supporting SPI within Owner/Operator and/or EPC environments.
Strong understanding of engineering business processes and how SPI supports capital projects and ongoing operations.
Demonstrated experience developing documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
Proficiency with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle) and understanding of database integrity management.
Working knowledge of programming or scripting (e.g., Visual Basic, C#) is an asset.
Experience performing data quality audits and ensuring compliance with project standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities.
Background in Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Mining, or related industries, with exposure to large projects.
Must reside in Calgary, AB area or Houston, TX area.
Legally authorized to work in Canada or the U.S. (citizen, permanent resident, or green card holder).
