About the role
- Lead all Product Development Formulation projects, ensuring that all product launches meet ONE/SIZE standards for product excellence
- Oversee and lead the Product Development team on all operational aspects of Product Development, including: Product planning, Product strategy, Claims and testing, Product development, COGS analysis and feasibility, Competitive differentiation, Product and market research, Positioning, Consumer experience
- Work with Product Marketing and cross-functional partners to design the product innovation calendar, identifying disruptive opportunities for brand awareness and consideration through white space innovation
- Collaborate with VP of Product Development & Packaging and labs to bring products to life with excellence in both formula and componentry
- Build and maintain effective and strong relationships with contract manufacturers and 3rd party vendors, sourcing and managing manufacturing partners to bring product launches to life with the highest standards and service levels
- Monitor and maintain on-time delivery of critical project milestones, updating and tracking PD timelines, and work in partnership with project management, sourcing, supply chain, regulatory, and quality teams to ensure product launches occur in accordance with designated internal and external deadlines
- Responsibility for all consumer testing to ensure claim substantiations are approved with regulatory teams and manage claim developments process closely ensure all claims are substantiated across our product messaging
- Lead on-going formula development and new product innovations across all product categories to build a 2-year innovation pipeline, strategize on positioning (ingredient, technology, claims) with the support of our brand Founder, GM, and Luxury Brand Partners Executive Leadership Team
- Lead internal communication with cross-functional partners as it relates to product briefs, formula evaluation, shade selections, copy and claims, artwork and regulatory deliverables, so that stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Digital, and other functions are aware of the critical developments across Product
- Responsibility for the end-to-end product approval process, including evaluate formula submissions with brand Founder and own/manage product samples for all key decision makers
- Successfully work with the compliance department on regulatory and testing protocols: Coordinate all testing protocols with vendor to include protocols, usage instructions, questionnaires
- Coordinate all bulk and samples for all testing (consumer in use/claims, Safety/RIPT, water activity, etc.) and coordinate final claims with Regulatory, Brand Management and copy teams
- Partner with the VP of Product Packaging to assist with component development and testing, then synthesize user feedback; research marketplace to identify competitive insights
- Drive on time market samples and comps for retailer partners
- Liaise with QA/QC on distribution of shade and formula standards, range boards and production pieces
- Develop comprehensive lab briefs and effectively communicate with our labs/chemists throughout the product development process
- Serve as a senior strategic voice within the business, providing thought leadership in category trends, emerging technologies, and consumer behavior.
Requirements
- 15+ years of product development experience within the Beauty space and at least 10 years in color cosmetics
- Passionate about the beauty industry, fashion and related fields
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects through strong prioritization and planning
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
- Ability to work in fast-paced, often-changing collaborative environment
- Creative thinking skills
- Ability to establish procedures, processes and policies
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically with exceptional attention to detail
- Domestic & international travel required
