About the role
- Investigate incidents, evaluate liability, and scrutinize property damages to pursue collection of damages to PSE facility
- Travel throughout service territory to attend small claims court hearings on behalf of company
- Represent company in Small Claims hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations with damagers
- Travel for emergency incident responses, meet with stakeholders, and conduct onsite investigations as needed
- Provide litigation support to attorneys
- Enter required damage-claim billing information or notes into cross-functional systems
- Perform thorough investigation of incidents involving property damages to PSE facilities
- Maintain excellent time management and organization to adhere to deadlines
- Uphold safety compliance standards and promote a culture of total safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 4-5 plus years experience in utility operations or claims adjusting
- Familiarity with civil justice system
- Knowledge of insurance (specifically casualty claims adjusting)
- High level of interpersonal skills (verbal and written), including technical writing
- Ability to effectively interact with senior management and Union leadership
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-stress conditions and ability to resolve conflict
- Must be highly motivated, disciplined, and a self-starter
- Knowledge of tort and civil law
- Working knowledge of company’s operating tariffs, Washington State statutes and administrative regulations
- Must be willing to be on call for emergencies on a 24-hour basis
- Desired: BA/BS
- Desired: Working experience in Collections/Subrogation and/or Small Claims Court
- Desired: AIC, ARM, or CPCU designation and/or adjuster’s license
- Desired: Construction knowledge including interpretation of restoration estimates
- Desired: Municipality relations including interpretation service agreements
- Desired: Utility knowledge including gas and electric
- Desired: Understanding of the Dig Law
- Desired: Knowledge of PSE’s tariffs
- Desired: Proficient in SAP
