About the role
- Lead and grow a global foundation portfolio, building strategic, multi-year partnerships to fund climate, democracy, and local leadership initiatives worldwide.
- Develop and lead a proactive institutional fundraising strategy targeting foundation funders in Europe and the U.S.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit new funding prospects across sectors and regions, including senior-level engagement with funder leadership.
- Lead the creation of high-quality proposals, pitch materials, and grant reports in coordination with the global team, country leadership, MEL, and finance teams.
- Design and implement donor stewardship strategies to renew funding and deepen long-term institutional relationships.
- Partner with country teams and program leads to shape funding proposals and assess alignment with institutional donor interests.
- Serve as a knowledge hub on institutional funder priorities, trends, and best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience in institutional fundraising, with a strong track record of securing and managing multi-year grants, including large, complex institutional awards and long-term foundation relationships.
- Proven success in building and sustaining senior-level relationships with foundation, corporate, or public funders.
- Strong prospecting and strategy development capabilities; able to access and grow funding beyond traditional networks.
- Demonstrated ability to write persuasive proposals, reports, and donor materials.
- Knowledge of emerging or non-traditional climate funders (e.g. in health, democracy, education, or development) is a strong asset.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with experience coordinating across teams and time zones.
- Collaborative, diplomatic, and proactive communicator with strong relationship-building skills.
- Experience working in multi-country or international nonprofit settings is preferred.
- Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are a plus.
