About the role

  • Review project proposals and planned maintenance actions to resolve the need for environmental permits or clearances
  • Act as the liaison between ODOT project teams and external regulatory agencies to ensure projects are in compliance with environmental regulations and requirements
  • Work cohesively with designers from different work sections to prepare permit documentation, mediate differences and help develop a consensus for final plans
  • Provide technical expertise regarding storm water permitting requirements
  • Provide guidance to construction and maintenance personnel, technical staff and managers regarding permit requirements for transportation projects
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of transportation projects on biological resources within the project area of potential impact
  • Perform botanical, faunal and other field surveys for species potentially affected by transportation projects

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an environmental science, a physical science, a natural science, engineering, or a closely-related field AND two years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record
  • General knowledge of one or more of the following: fish biology, fish passage, botany or water quality
  • Experience with state and federal environmental permitting processes
  • Practice in relational skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Skill in technical writing skills and the ability to organize a large workload with varying timelines and shifting priorities
