About the role
- Advise and consult on claims, loss control, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Analyze sensitive tort claims and lawsuits to determine coverage, liability, and financial exposure.
- Investigate complex claims involving bodily injury, civil rights, property damage, and more.
- Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, and third parties.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and insurers on litigation strategy and recovery.
- Support strategic initiatives, process improvements, and risk management programs across state government.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree demonstrating the capacity for the required knowledge and skills; AND Four years of professional-level experience in claims management, including the handling of litigated files.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to seven years of professional-level experience in claims management and the handling of litigated files.
- Preference may be given to candidates with this experience in the public sector.
- Experience in claims management, tort law, and risk/insurance principles.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment in high-stakes situations.
- Effective investigation, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Clear, diplomatic communication, collaboration and consulting skills.
- Skilled in data analysis, report writing, and decision making.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
