About the role

  • Serve both the Employer Assistance Division and the Apprenticeship and Training Division at the Bureau of Labor and Industries
  • As an advisor and collaborator on the application of appropriate employment law as it relates to the Apprenticeship and Training Division
  • Provide technical assistance to employers related to wage and hour, civil rights, and protected leave laws
  • Provide consultative support to apprenticeship and training committees, administrators, training agents (employers), and staff regarding employment law compliance in the context of apprenticeship operations
  • Attend and brief the Oregon State Apprenticeship and Training Council (OSATC) and OSATC subcommittees
  • Leverage broad subject matter expertise to provide consultation and technical assistance to employer and apprenticeship committee staff, managers, and supervisors as well as attorneys, government agencies, HR professionals

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; AND two years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work
  • Any combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skills for the classification
  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying professional training consistent with the principles of adult learning
  • Excellent public speaking skills, including the ability to present complicated information
  • Networking, outreach, and project management experience
  • Excellent business writing and research skills
  • Experience administering and applying employment laws relating to apprenticeship, wage and hour, civil rights, and leave law requirements
  • Experience providing technical support with a customer-service oriented approach
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Teams, and SharePoint applications for efficient collaboration, writing, and revision of employer handbooks and other publications.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple internal teams to prioritize and provide technical assistance
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship and/or workforce development systems
  • Experience in applying an equity lens inclusive of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and ability to all aspects of job responsibilities
