About the role
- Lead ideation, design, and implementation of complex, large-scale open-source AI solutions
- Translate business requirements into technical architectures and ensure successful project delivery
- Lead end-to-end architectural design and technical strategy, including data pipelines, model training, deployment, MLOps, security, and integration patterns
- Serve as primary technical point of contact for clients; present technical solutions and support pre-sales activities
- Provide technical advisory on open-source AI frameworks, libraries, and platforms (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, Kubeflow, Ray, MCP, open-source LLMs)
- Guide development teams, mentor engineers, and manage technical risks across project lifecycle
- Contribute to thought leadership: blogs, whitepapers, presentations, and represent OpenTeams at conferences
- Actively participate in and contribute to open-source AI communities and projects
Requirements
- Deep practical experience with a wide range of open-source AI frameworks, libraries, and tools (emphasis on AI/ML)
- Proficiency in Python
- Strong background in software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems and drive solutions to implementation
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams
- Deep technical expertise in at least one core area and understanding of others: Numerical Computing, Distributed & High-Performance Computing, Infrastructure/Cloud, Data Science/Machine Learning, MLOps, Data Engineering, Generative AI, Agentic AI, LLMs
- Candidates must already reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate to Colorado
- Bonus: contributions to open-source AI or Scientific Python/PyData ecosystem; consulting experience; prior government contracts experience; existing U.S. government security clearance or willingness to obtain one
