About the role

  • Set and own the creative vision for marketing OpenAI’s visual AI models across product storytelling, launches, campaigns, content and experiential/digital moments.
  • Define “what great looks like” for AI-native storytelling across formats—including video, motion, interactive and emerging mediums.
  • Translate product capabilities and research breakthroughs into creative frameworks, narratives and breakthrough concepts that are accessible, human, and culturally resonant.
  • Lead work from early creative strategy through execution, ensuring ideas remain strong as constraints, inputs, and timelines evolve.
  • Establish and maintain a high bar for craft, concept, storytelling, and coherence across all creative outputs.
  • Develop strong relationships with Product and Research to turn technical possibility into creative possibility—helping shape demos, showcases and proof-of-concept examples that set the tone for the ecosystem.
  • Lead the visual creative strategy and storytelling for strategic partner launches, translating joint value into clear, inspiring narratives across partner and OpenAI channels.
  • Design and direct partner-facing showcases and flagship examples (demo films, creator collaborations, interactive experiences) that credibly demonstrate capability and creative potential.
  • Partner with Product Design to bring a narrative and brand perspective into user-facing experiences when appropriate, ensuring cohesion between product expression and marketing storytelling.
  • Shape how OpenAI’s visual models show up in the world through distinctive creative systems (visual language, motion principles, editorial style, scalable formats and tool-informed workflows).
  • Create a culture of learning-by-making, including regular demos and show-and-tells that help the team build confidence using AI tools without losing craft, originality or authorship.
  • Balance big-picture thinking with hands-on creative involvement, knowing when to direct and when to dive in.
  • Navigate ambiguity, competing inputs, and high-stakes environments with clarity and composure.
  • Act as a trusted creative partner to cross-functional and executive stakeholders, aligning creative work to company priorities.

Requirements

  • Have 10+ years of creative leadership experience, with a distinctive portfolio that demonstrates high craft, conceptual clarity and impact across mediums.
  • Have experience setting creative vision — not just executing against briefs — for complex, high-visibility initiatives.
  • Bring strong narrative and conceptual skills, with the ability to translate abstract or technical ideas into human-centered stories.
  • Are fluent across multiple creative channels, including brand campaigns, digital, content, experiential, and storytelling.
  • Are equally comfortable setting direction and getting hands-on when needed.
  • Have a refined creative point of view and can articulate it clearly to teams and stakeholders.
  • Are a collaborative, empathetic leader who elevates teams through clarity, trust, and thoughtful feedback.
  • Are excited to lead creative teams through new tools and new mediums as someone who can translate capability into creative possibility.
  • Balance creativity with rigor, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of brand responsibility.
  • Are energized by the role of creativity in shaping how transformative technology meets the world.
