About the role
- Collaborate design work and project scopes with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimized feasible mine closure plan and to gain consensus among stakeholders and collaborate towards shared goals.
- Prepare proficient technical documentation and reporting in area of technical discipline.
- Prepare or review detailed work scopes for proposals relating to technical discipline.
- Complete simulations of mine closure and risk assessment conditions for a given model domain development through robust conceptual analysis.
- Complete background reviews in support of conceptual model development.
- Foster and maintain client relationships.
- Plan and complete field investigations such as material sampling programs and construction QA/QC projects.
- Empathize with stakeholders and communities affected by mining operations and work to address their concerns with sensitivity and understanding.
- Take ownership of tasks, seek out opportunities for improvement and contribute positively to team efforts.
- Maintains and understands the importance of respect for diverse cultures, background, and perspectives, with an awareness of cultural sensitivities in community engagement and consultation process.
- Ensures the highest commitment to ethical behavior, integrity, and transparency in all interactions, particularly when dealing with stakeholders and sensitive environmental issues.
- Willingness to continuously learn and expand knowledge in technical discipline, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder engagement practices.
- Ability to analyze environmental data, including soil and water quality data, to inform reclamation plans and closure strategies.
- Junior-level project management skills to assist in planning, organizing, and executing reclamation and closure projects.
Requirements
- Educational background in environmental engineering, mining engineering, biology, ecology, earth sciences, environmental science, geology, or environmental technology is an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental principles, regulations, and best practices related to mine reclamation and closure.
- Genuine interest in environmental sustainability and a commitment to mitigating the environmental impacts of mining activities.
- Proficiency in GIS software to create maps and spatially analyze data relevant to mine sites and reclamation efforts is an asset.
- Experience in engaging with local communities, stakeholders, and regulators to gather input, address concerns, and build relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify issues, evaluate options, and develop practical solutions in reclamation and closure planning.
- Understanding the environmental regulations and permitting requirements relevant to mine reclamation and closure activities could be considered an asset.
- Experience in facilitating workshops or meetings to develop closure visions with input from various stakeholders considered an asset.
- Ability to remain resilient and composed under pressure, while maintaining professionalism and focus on achieving project objectives.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, project requirements, and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic work environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in data analysis, reporting, and project documentation.
