About the role
- Define and own the overall marketing vision and strategy aligned to company growth goals
- Lead, and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary marketing team
- Act as a key member of the SLT leadership team, contributing to company-wide strategy and decision-making
- Drive demand generation, customer acquisition, and revenue growth across B2C (consumer leasing) and B2E (employer-led schemes such as salary sacrifice) channels.
- Own and optimise the full growth funnel: acquisition, activation, conversion, retention, and lifetime value, with a strong bias toward experimentation and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Sales and Partnerships to improve lead quality and messaging, win rates, and go-to-market effectiveness
- Expand our collaboration with OEMs, improving our positioning and pitch.
- Clarify and evolve Octopus Electric Vehicles’ brand positioning, messaging, and narrative across consumer and employer audiences, ensuring clear differentiation as EV leaders within the Octopus Energy Group landscape.
- Establish Octopus EV as a distinctive, trusted brand that stands out in a competitive and rapidly evolving EV market. Experimenting with creative, out of the box ways of doing so.
- Ensure brand consistency across all touchpoints, from digital to partnerships to customer experience
- Own product and proposition messaging for consumers and employers, translating complex EV, finance, and energy propositions into simple, compelling value stories.
- Lead launches of new products, services, and propositions
- Translate customer insight into compelling value propositions and sales enablement
- Support initial set up and scaling in new geographies
- Deliver or establish clear growth metrics, dashboards, and accountability across acquisition, CAC, conversion, and LTV, with clear links to revenue impact.
- Manage marketing budgets with a strong focus on ROI
- Build scalable marketing processes and tooling
Requirements
- Experience as a Director of Marketing in a high-growth scale-up or challenger brand
- Proven track record of driving measurable commercial growth, ideally in consumer-facing, subscription, marketplace, or fintech/energy-adjacent businesses.
- Strong experience in brand strategy, including positioning and messaging.
- Proven track record of building a differentiated brand story and enabling teams to translate that into compelling customer facing language
- Strong understanding of digital, performance, lifecycle, and customer-led marketing, including paid acquisition, conversion rate optimisation, and retention.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute at pace
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and evolving priorities
- Highly commercial, data-literate, and outcome-focused
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including working closely with founders/CEOs
- Customer-obsessed and insight-led
- Low-ego, collaborative, and hands-on
- Excited by the energy transition and the role EVs play in it
- Willing to challenge the status quo and be challenged in return
