About the role
- Support planning and execution of installation of network cabling systems (copper and fiber)
- Pull, terminate, and test network cables according to industry standards
- Collaborate with network engineers and architects to design cabling layouts
- Ensure proper cable routing, labelling, and documentation
- Utilize cable testing equipment to verify performance and certify cables
- Inspect and maintain existing cabling infrastructure and resolve issues
- Troubleshoot cabling problems such as signal loss, interference, or connectivity issues
- Implement effective cable management solutions and manage cable runs, trays, and racks
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices during installations
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of cabling layouts, diagrams, and test results
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, project managers, and IT stakeholders
- Provide technical expertise and guidance under supervision during project planning and execution
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to network cabling
Requirements
- Developing proficiency in cable testing equipment and network cabling tools
- Developing knowledge of network protocols, IP addressing, and basic networking concepts
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities
- Commitment to safety and compliance with industry standards
- Developing ability to deal with challenging situations effectively and work in a fast-paced environment
- Stays updated with industry trends and emerging technologies
- Developing proficiency in project management principles and tools
- Displays developing decision-making skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Preferred certifications: BICSI RCDD, Cisco CCNA (preferred)
- Moderate level experience in network cabling installation and maintenance within a similar role and IT services organization
- Skills: pulling, terminating, and testing copper (Cat5e, Cat6) and fiber optic cables; certifying cables; cable routing, labelling, documentation; cable management; use of cable testing equipment
