About the role
- Advise on Mozilla’s product, business, and ecosystem needs across global products and internal systems
- Develop and implement risk-based strategies in partnership with Product, Engineering, People, Business Development and Marketing teams
- Evaluate and internally report on privacy-related U.S., European, and international legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry guidelines and translate them into guidance for the business teams
- Design and evolve global privacy compliance programs and strategies across Mozilla
- Lead privacy risk assessments including DPIAs, TIAs and third-party reviews using a scalable approach to manage and mitigate risk
- Draft, revise, and maintain consumer and developer legal terms, privacy policies, notices, and privacy trainings
- Embed privacy-by-design principles into workflows and product development
- Work with commercial legal teams on critical privacy issues for agreements with advertisers and other third parties
- Provide privacy advice in M&A transactions and post-close integration activities
- Coordinate closely with Public Policy, Engineering, Security, Trust & Safety, and Data Science on multidisciplinary issues
Requirements
- J.D. degree and membership in a state bar with good standing (or foreign equivalent)
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience
- Experience as In-house counsel
- Substantial experience advising on global privacy issues across multiple jurisdictions, including those related to data privacy and security
- Background working with regulators and responding to regulatory inquiries
- Ability to drive impact, outcomes and engagement using limited resources to get results
- Established ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and build consensus across cross-functional teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to distill nuanced concepts into concise messages, write and edit for a variety of audiences, and deliver polished presentations
- Experience with the online advertising industry (bonus)
- High fluency in internet technologies and software development (bonus)
- CIPP or related certifications (bonus)
