About the role
- Lead and mentor department managers and supervisors, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Oversee workforce planning, hiring, training, and performance management to ensure team capability and readiness
- Promote positive labor/management relations, resolve issues and grievances, and participate in monthly meetings and collective bargaining as required
- Identify training needs through a skills matrix and ensure ongoing leadership development
- Manage and coordinate all plant activities to achieve production targets and deliver products on time with first-time quality
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies, operating procedures, and methods to drive efficiency and improve product quality
- Monitor operational KPIs, analyze results, and drive performance improvements across departments
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles and support new product introductions
- Ensure products meet company and customer quality standards and resolve workmanship and design issues with QA and Engineering
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations and ensure compliance with labor, environmental, and industry standards
- Develop and manage plant budgets, review monthly results, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource utilization
- Review and approve capital requests with justification and payback analysis, and provide regular operational updates to senior leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Business, or related field
- 10+ years in manufacturing operations
- 5+ years in a senior leadership role
- Demonstrated success leading large teams and complex operations in a unionized environment
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, production planning, and quality systems
- ERP and manufacturing software experience
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
