About the role
- Manage the on-site transportation department (outbound and inbound) including employees, assets, and service providers.
- Supervise transportation, logistics, and supply chain solutions, including routing and scheduling of shipments.
- Ensure plant has needed transportation equipment and carrier support; liaise with manufacturing management for material flow.
- Communicate with internal and external carriers for receiving, scheduling, and dispatching product.
- Process, audit, control and approve site transportation invoices and costs.
- Plan, organize, and manage direct reports and loading crews; enforce safety rules and organizational processes.
- Provide accounting and reporting; meet and exceed company and departmental KPIs; ensure carriers meet KPIs.
- Collaborate with managers, staff, sales personnel, employees, and outside carriers to improve operations and profitability.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and customer satisfaction opportunities.
- Investigate service failures, product damage, safety issues; determine and enforce corrective actions.
- Monitor use of powered industrial equipment and external vehicles for safe operation and cost control.
- Manage equipment pools/assets and staffing, including recruiting, interviewing, training, testing, and certification.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending safety meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimal of an Associate Degree in Business, Operations Management, Logistics, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong communication skills; verbal, written, leadership, collaboration, customer, training, safety.
- Proficiency in MS Office Software.
- Proven skills in learning and utilizing new computer programs.
- Understanding of root cause analysis and ability to take corrective actions.
- Awareness and understanding of the importance of Customer Service and Leadership.
- Minimum of 6 years in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years in a supervisory capacity required.
- English skills required; Spanish bilingual ability preferred.
- First Aid / CPR/ AED or First Responder training preferred.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours required.
- Self-motivated, performance driven, able to work without constant supervision.
