Own all aspects of People & Culture for Middle Seat’s fully remote, majority-bargaining-unit team
Design and manage HR systems, ensure compliance, lead recruitment, and drive engagement initiatives
Report directly to the COO and operate as a department of one
Manage HR operations including benefits administration, partnering with a PEO for payroll, benefits, and compliance
Maintain policies, employee handbook, and compliance with federal/local regulations (FMLA, ADA, OSHA) and the collective bargaining agreement
Handle sensitive employee matters, investigations, and conflict resolution with discretion
Build scalable processes for onboarding, offboarding, policy rollouts, and internal communications
Act as company point of contact for all employee communications
Optimize HRIS, benefits, and engagement tools; serve as technical owner of HR systems
Manage company Google Workspace and compliance with IT security policy
Track and analyze workforce data for capacity planning, retention strategies, and diversity reporting
Embed DEI into hiring, policies, and team culture and foster remote team engagement
Lead new hire onboarding, professional development, performance review processes, and leadership pathways
Counsel managers on employee management and cultivate supervisory skills
Coordinate staff appreciation, bonding activities, and plan annual in-person and virtual retreats
Lead recruitment end-to-end, build diverse talent pipelines, and liaise with union representatives as needed
Requirements
You’re a hands-on HR leader who thrives in small, fast-moving organizations
7-10 years of HR experience working with 50–100 employee companies (bonus points if experienced with unionized teams and collective bargaining agreements)
Systems-builder mentality; able to implement and manage PEOs, HRIS, and benefits platforms
Remote workforce expertise with experience applying HR policies and engagement strategies to distributed teams
An equity-driven mindset, with a track record of embedding DEI into policies, recruiting, and culture initiatives
Discreet and self-directed, comfortable writing policies, troubleshooting systems, and coaching managers through complex employee matters
