About the role
- Under the instructor of record's supervision, ensure successful delivery of asynchronous online courses.
- Communicate with the instructor before the course begins to set expectations and tasks.
- Respond to student discussion posts, provide clarity on assignment guidelines, give feedback on draft assignments, and hold office hours as requested.
- Familiarize oneself with the course syllabus and academic technology that supports the course, especially the Canvas learning management system.
- Respond to student questions and requests promptly, typically within 24 hours.
- If requested, be available for office hours by appointment to accommodate students across time zones.
- Report any trends or concerns to the instructor while honoring student confidentiality and FERPA regulations.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and contact the Office of Digital Learning and Inquiry (DLINQ) or Information Technology Services (ITS) as needed.
- This position does not include grading or assessment of learning.
Requirements
- 2nd-year student in the residential MA Translation & Localization Management program, preferred.
- Prior teaching experience or experience facilitating online learning events, such as meetings or professional development, preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with academic technology and willingness to learn new systems and platforms.
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion throughout the teaching assistantship.
- Must not be a registered student in the course for which the teaching assistant is providing support.
- TAs are not eligible to work remotely from outside the United States.
- International students may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government (F-1 visa does not give work authorization).
