Ensure successful delivery of asynchronous online courses under the instructor of record's supervision.
Provide instructional and technological support to online students in collaboration with the course instructor.
This position does not include grading or assessment of learning.
Before the course begins, communicate with the instructor to set expectations and tasks (respond to student discussion posts, clarify assignment guidelines, give feedback on drafts, hold office hours).
Familiarize oneself with the course syllabus and academic technology that supports the course, especially the Canvas learning management system.
Respond to student questions and requests promptly, typically within 24 hours.
If requested, be available for office hours by appointment to accommodate students located across time zones.
Report any trends or concerns to the instructor while honoring student confidentiality and FERPA regulations.
Troubleshoot technical issues and contact the Office of Digital Learning and Inquiry (DLINQ) or Information Technology Services (ITS) as needed.
Expected available hours: 5 per week; position open for Fall B.
Compensation: Level B rate on the MIIS student wage scale ($17.00 - $17.50 per hour).
Requirements
2nd-year student in the residential MA Translation & Localization Management program, preferred.
Prior teaching experience or experience facilitating online learning events, such as meetings or professional development, preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with students of diverse backgrounds.
Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Familiarity with academic technology and willingness to learn new systems and platforms.
Must be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion throughout the teaching assistantship.
Must not be a registered student in the course for which the teaching assistant is providing support.
TAs are not eligible to work remotely from outside the United States.
International students may be restricted by visa status and may need work authorization to work off campus; an F-1 visa does not give work authorization.
Student employment hour limitations: limited to 20 hours per week during the academic year (visa restrictions may apply).
