About the role
- Analyze design criteria, applicable codes, and client requirements for structural projects
- Prepare calculations necessary to produce structural engineering construction drawings and specifications for building and non-building projects
- Lead a team of structural engineers and designers on large projects and provide mentorship
- Act as Director of Record (DOR) as required and provide clear redlines for EITs and BIM designers
- Check design calculations performed by others and conduct Internal Technical Reviews (ITRs)
- Review and comment on construction submittals, respond to RFIs, and review corrective actions for field errors
- Define scope of work and man-hour estimates and interact with clients to sell MBI engineering services
- Maintain technical knowledge and professional licensure through seminars, training, and professional development
- Occasionally visit project sites to report and document findings to Project Manager and/or Owner
- Follow MBI project standards and team protocols and collaborate with Senior Engineers, other disciplines and Project Managers
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience (Master’s degree may substitute 1-2 years of experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Architectural or Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of California (SE preferred)
- Proficiency with RAM SS, RISA 3D, ETABS, Revit, Enercalc, Microsoft Excel, MS Office Suite
- Familiarity with structural design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, AISC, TMS, and ACI
- Experience with seismic design for new construction and seismic evaluation of existing buildings
- Strong verbal, written, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to check design calculations performed by others and conduct Internal Technical Reviews (ITRs)
- Ability to prepare complex studies, construction documents, reports, redlines for EITs and BIM designers
- Ability to handle multiple projects, define scope of work and man-hour estimates
- Ability to review and comment on construction submittals, respond to Contractor RFIs, and review corrective action for field errors
- Maintain professional licensure in state of residence and ability to gain reciprocity in other states
- Available for periodic travel
