About the role
- Prepare complex studies, construction documents (drawings and specifications), reports and supporting documentation for structural building design
- Analyze design criteria, applicable codes, and client requirements
- Prepare structural calculations for building and non-building projects
- Act as DOR (Designing or Delegated Responsible), check calculations, and conduct Internal Technical Reviews (ITRs)
- Provide clear redlines to EITs and BIM designers and review others’ work
- Review and comment on construction submittals, respond to Contractor RFIs, and review corrective action for field errors
- Communicate with senior engineers, other disciplines and project managers; schedule and document meetings
- Define scope of work and man-hour estimates; interact with clients to sell MBI structural engineering services
- Mentor less experienced staff and provide guidance throughout project design
- Occasionally visit project sites to report and document findings
- Follow MBI project standards and team protocols
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience (Master’s degree may substitute 1-2 years of experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Architectural or Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of Florida
- Proficiency with RAM SS, RISA 3D, ETABS, Revit, Enercalc, Microsoft Excel, MS Office Suite
- Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, AISC, TMS, and ACI
- Experience with seismic design and seismic evaluation of existing buildings (preferred)
- Experience with hurricane wind speed design (preferred)
- Strong verbal, written, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to maintain professional licensure and obtain reciprocity in other states
- Ability to act as DOR and check design calculations performed by others
- Ability to conduct Internal Technical Reviews (ITRs) and provide clear redlines for EITs and BIM designers
- Ability to define scope of work, estimate man-hours, handle multiple projects, mentor staff, and sell structural engineering services
- Available for periodic travel
