About the role
- Develop and maintain technical / metallurgical expertise to serve as a subject matter expert in the areas of customer processing (e.g. forging, forming, heat treating (Q&T, carburizing, nitriding, induction hardening, etc.), machining), micro-alloy steels, automotive applications (e.g. gears, crankshafts), property testing (e.g. mechanical, fatigue, thermomechanical), and product performance.
- Enhance and promote the value and advantages of Metallus material solutions through direct customer and industry interactions.
- Serve as a lead technical metallurgical contact in discussions around new business development, customer processes, challenges, opportunities.
- Work closely with Marketing, Business Development, Application Development, and other commercial teams to strategically approach opportunities to promote sales growth through new business opportunities or expanding capabilities using thermomechanical testing (Gleeble) and computational modeling (including process modeling (rolling, tube making) and computational thermodynamics).
- Lead complex investigative work through the Application Met Lab, especially those that pertain to customer processing of our materials and/or competitors’ materials, failure analysis, and advanced materials characterization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field with at least 7 years of experience in metallurgy, steel, metal manufacturing, or related work.
- Master's degree in a technical or related field with at least 5 years of experience in metallurgy, steel, metal manufacturing, or related work.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field with at least 12 years of experience in metallurgy, steel, metal manufacturing, or related work (preferred).
- Master's degree in a technical or related field with at least 10 years of experience in metallurgy, steel, metal manufacturing, or related work (preferred).
