About the role

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's compliance program and policies to ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and advise senior management on potential impacts to the company.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Lead and manage regulatory compliance efforts and the local compliance team in Italy.
  • Drive the implementation and maintenance of MiCA in Italy, including local policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff and partners on regulatory matters.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors; manage regulatory examinations and reporting.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for regulatory compliance-related matters and represent Mercuryo with Italian regulators.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Legal, Finance, Operations, IT) and external partners (banks, industry associations).
  • Be a sandbox partner to the Product Team to support product releases and enhancements.
  • Monitor, test, and analyse the effectiveness of the compliance program and implement improvements.
  • Serve as strategic partner to senior management, overseeing operations in Italy and contributing to business expansion.
  • Work with global teams to execute local market activities and foster the local digital asset ecosystem.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in law, business and economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in regulatory compliance (96 months), ideally with a regulatory body.
  • Professional experience with regulators such as CONSOB, BdI, etc.
  • Experience in crypto-asset, fintech, or financial instruments markets preferred.
  • Solid understanding of MiCA, MiFID II, PSD2, and EMD2.
  • Good understanding of 2nd Line compliance oversight areas, in particular regulatory compliance and consumer protection.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing compliance strategies, frameworks, and controls (preferred).
  • Legal, compliance, or financial qualifications (advantageous).
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a small team and sharing knowledge.
