About the role

  • Develop and Maintain Compliance Programs: Design, implement, and manage comprehensive customs and trade compliance policies, procedures, training programs, and toolkits to ensure adherence to all applicable international, federal, and industry regulations.
  • Trade Compliance: Ensure adherence to international trade laws and regulations (e.g., import/export controls, customs compliance). Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage risk and maintain audit readiness.
  • Monitor Regulatory Changes: Stay current on global customs regulations, tariffs, and trade developments. Proactively advise senior management and relevant departments on required strategic and operational adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Lead Compliance Audits: Conduct regular internal compliance assessments and trade audits to identify risk areas, ensure adherence to recordkeeping requirements, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with key departments—such as logistics, legal, finance, sales, and supply chain—to ensure compliance into daily operations and support new business initiatives.
  • Government Relations: Act as the primary liaison with customs authorities and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and guide customs compliance professionals, ensuring ongoing training and development to maintain a high level of regulatory knowledge and performance within the team. Partner with Finance, Legal, ESG, and supply chain to drive strategic initiatives. Champion diversity, equity and inclusion in supplier engagement and team development.
  • Documentation Oversight: Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and submission of customs declarations and related trade documentation in compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Investigations and Resolutions: Lead internal investigations of potential compliance breaches. Manage regulatory inquiries and negotiate resolutions or settlements with government agencies when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, international trade, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in customs compliance management or a related area.
  • Deep understanding of customs and international trade regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., customs declaration systems, supply chain tools).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel internationally when needed.
