About the role

  • Task 1: Analysis of Underwater Imagery A. Quantify fish and selected invertebrates in all imagery provided; B. Assist in the measurement of key species using stereo imagery.
  • Task 2: Data Management and Analysis A. Compile data into Excel or equivalent databases; and B. Assist with data QA/QC.
  • Task 3: AUV Shoreside Support and Maintenance Be available for in-person assistance with shoreside operations related to AUV maintenance. A. Assist with moving, assembling, and maintaining AUV equipment; and B. Maintain detailed notes during maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in fisheries, oceanography, social science, natural science, mathematics, hydrology, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience, or a total of seven (7) years combined education and experience. A Master’s degree may substitute for the experience requirement
  • Familiarity with west coast groundfish species and ability to identify them in underwater imagery
  • Ability to identify west coast corals and other benthic invertebrates from imagery
  • Experience with statistical tools and spreadsheet/database software
  • Prior experience analyzing underwater imagery
  • Experience using image analysis software specific to AUV-collected data
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds for equipment handling and AUV maintenance
