About the role
- Provide a compelling engineering strategy and roadmap for cloud platform teams.
- Inspire and motivate multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Lead Product Owner who defines the What and Why , while you drive the How —including engineering methods, technical decisions, and ways of working.
- Champion modern engineering approaches including agile delivery, automation, observability, platform engineering and DevOps practices.
- Encourage participation in Guilds , Communities of Practice , Inner Source , and engineering meet‑ups to drive continual improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Support teams in adopting engineering practices aligned to Systems Thinking, Service Design and data‑driven decision making.
- Talent‑spot, recruit, and develop engineers across infrastructure, software, DevOps and cloud disciplines.
- Create a learning culture with a “Fail Fast, Learn Faster” mindset.
- Coach engineers and engineering managers to build a strong, inclusive and collaborative culture.
- Ensure all engineering work meets Bank standards for security, resilience, risk, and change control.
- Maximise safe empowerment and delegated decision‑making across teams.
- Work with architects and engineering communities to ensure alignment with patterns, standards, and best practice.
Requirements
- Extensive software engineering background (any modern programming language).
- Strong experience leading large-scale engineering teams in complex organisations.
- Proven experience in cloud-based engineering—preferably Azure, GCP, Kubernetes or API platforms.
- Deep understanding of modern software engineering lifecycle, DevOps tooling, CI/CD and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Jira, Confluence).
- Ability to build trust, resolve technical impediments, and facilitate high‑quality decision making.
