About the role
- Advise on a variety of labor and employment law matters, including employee relations, wage and hour, compensation and benefits, performance management, disciplinary actions, leaves and accommodations, recruiting, restrictive covenants and contingent workers.
- Partner with our People Team to support day-to-day employee lifecycle matters.
- Draft, review and update employment related policies and agreements, including our employee handbook and our variable compensation plans.
- Support global employment matters in France, India, the United Kingdom, and manage contingent worker matters hired through PEOs with assistance from local counsel.
- Evaluate and scale current employment processes.
- Support workplace investigations and disputes.
- Actively monitor legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities relating to employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice to the relevant stakeholders as necessary.
- Support employment compliance matters.
- Prepare and provide training on various employment law matters to internal stakeholders.
- Provide employment law support for corporate transactions.
Requirements
- Must have a J.D. from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing with the state bar association (CA, NY preferred).
- 10+ years of labor and employment experience, including in-house experience.
- Deep expertise in CA labor and employment law, as well as demonstrated knowledge of other jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated judgment, personal integrity, discretion regarding confidential matters, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to independently research and advise on complex legal questions as the company’s sole labor and employment attorney.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to identify risk and simplify complex legal issues for the business in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience in advising on variable compensation plans, pay equity and pay transparency matters, and wage and hour compliance, including job classifications and payroll compliance.
- Experience in advising on workforce change strategies including reorganizations, reductions in team and WARN compliance.
- Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, balance competing priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once.
