About the role

  • Design, develop, and support API solutions to modernize and streamline access to VA data and services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, engineers, security specialists, business analysts) to deliver high-quality API products
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Argo, and other automation tools
  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes to ensure rapid and reliable software releases
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation) to automate infrastructure provisioning and enforce policy-driven engineering
  • Set up and manage monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, Jaeger, Kiali, Dynatrace) and implement alerting systems
  • Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or on-premises servers and optimize resource usage
  • Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
  • Write automation scripts (Bash, Python, PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks and custom solutions
  • Implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans and regularly test recovery procedures
  • Monitor application and infrastructure performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, and Helm; utilize ACK to manage AWS services via Kubernetes
  • Integrate Istio for service mesh capabilities and maintain developer portals using Backstage.io
  • Align with and support VA Lighthouse technical infrastructure, tools, and compliance requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • 4+ years’ experience in software development, DevOps, or platform engineering roles
  • Strong proficiency with GitHub, including Packages, Releases, and repository management
  • Hands-on experience with containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architecture
  • Expertise in AWS services and infrastructure design
  • Experience with Istio, Helm, and microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with CodeClimate, Datadog, Jaeger, Kiali, and Dynatrace
  • Proven ability to implement secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure
  • Knowledge of federal security standards and DevSecOps practices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to remotely access VA systems and use approved VA-provided communications systems
  • May be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested
  • Preferred: Active VA Public Trust
  • Preferred: Prior experience supporting federal agencies, especially the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Preferred: Familiarity with VA Lighthouse tools and infrastructure
  • Preferred: Certifications in AWS, Kubernetes, or DevOps-related disciplines
  • Preferred: Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
