About the role
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data architectures and pipelines to support clinical and operational data needs
- Integrate data from multiple healthcare and call center systems, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability
- Build and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage
- Develop and maintain databases, data warehouses, and data lakes, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance
- Implement data governance, quality assurance, and compliance standards across all data platforms
- Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver solutions that enable reporting and analytics
- Develop and deploy APIs and data services to enable secure access to data assets
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data-related issues, proactively identifying opportunities for system improvements
- Document data architecture, data flows, and technical specifications
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering, architecture, and cloud platforms
- Participate in project meetings, workshops, and stakeholder presentations as a technical subject matter expert
- This is a remote access assignment; Hybrid if in the DC Metro Area. Candidate will work remotely daily and will remotely access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems
- Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field
- 3-10 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, database development, or similar technical roles
- Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Proficiency in data pipeline development using tools such as SQL, Python, Spark, or ETL platforms
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure) and data warehousing solutions
- Knowledge of data modeling, data integration, and API development
- Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance standards in healthcare or regulated environments
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including technical documentation
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
- Preferred: Active VA Public Trust
- Preferred: Prior experience supporting a VA program
- Preferred: Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
- Preferred: Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related discipline
- Preferred: Experience in consulting, technology, or professional services environments
- Preferred: Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Kafka) and advanced analytics platforms
- Preferred: Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) and interoperability frameworks
