About the role
- Remote Product Manager to lead development and delivery of API platforms and integration technologies for the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Work remotely daily and remotely access VA systems using approved VA provided communications systems; travel not required but may attend onsite client meetings as requested
- Design, develop, and support API solutions that empower veterans, partners, and internal stakeholders to access information and services efficiently
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, security specialists, and business analysts to deliver high-quality API products
- Define and communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business objectives and stakeholder needs
- Gather, document, and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements with business units and technical teams
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee end-to-end delivery of product initiatives ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget
- Maintain and prioritize the product backlog ensuring clear definition and acceptance criteria for user stories and features
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to product stability, security, and delivery timelines
- Establish and track KPIs to measure product adoption, reliability, and business impact
- Drive ongoing enhancements based on user feedback, analytics, and emerging technology trends
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of product features, processes, and architecture for technical and non-technical audiences
- Ensure platform adheres to security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Manage and mentor a small team of product managers fostering collaboration and professional growth
- Contribute to program mission of modernizing VA data access and improving veteran experiences
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in product management or IT project management, preferably with API platforms or integration technologies
- Experience in large-scale enterprise environments, ideally within federal or healthcare sectors
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices architecture, and API management tools
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Proven track record of delivering complex IT projects or products in an Agile environment
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps) and project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with security, authentication, and authorization standards (e.g., OAuth, JWT) is a plus
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, QA, security, and business stakeholders
- Experience managing and leading teams
- Previous experience implementing complex API solutions for Federal health clients
- Previous experience delivering high-availability systems
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
- Active VA Public Trust (preferred)
- Prior experience supporting federal agencies, especially the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
