Serve as a founding member of a small team responsible for spacecraft systems lifecycle from design through in-orbit validation
Act as senior technical expert for design and optimization of satellite payload/bus interfaces and oversee manufacturing, testing and qualification campaigns
Actively participate in CAD and hands-on engineering activities due to small "tiger team" size
Work with component and subsystem manufacturers to ensure quality, alignment and performance of delivered components and mechanisms
Lead testing, qualification, verification and iterative improvements for the imaging instrument
Bring designs into production, commissioning and operations of the imaging instrument, including verification and validation phases
Requirements
Expert knowledge and hands-on skills of mechanical CAD design, analysis and optimization including all project phases from concept to material and structural analysis
Familiarity with material science and engineering for space environment (outgassing, thermal cycling, thermoelastic effects)
Familiarity with testing, especially TVAC and vibration testing and pre-launch qualification campaigns
Mindset of owning problems, R&D style of learning by doing and iterating
Proven experience delivering design through suppliers and working directly with manufacturers and subcontractors
Experience with high-precision and accuracy mechanics
Expert knowledge of design methodologies used in optomechanical/optomechatronic systems for precise alignment and positioning
Familiarity with thermal and mechanical interface design assuring adjustable and high-precision coupling
Preferred: Experience in QA and AIT of precise mechanisms
Preferred: Experience in high-precision actuated (robotics, optical) systems
Preferred: Experience with vacuum and cryogenic applications and aerospace materials
Preferred: Previous experience in the satellite and/or defense industry
