About the role

  • Lead and oversee monthly, quarterly and annual close processes in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and company policies.
  • Conduct complex account reconciliations and oversee the general ledger, including foreign subsidiaries, and elimination entries.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules for research and development accruals and other complex areas.
  • Prepare and review comprehensive account analyses and reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts on a timely basis each month to assure the integrity of the accounting records.
  • Research and manage technical accounting matters, providing accurate and comprehensive documentation of issues identified and resolution reached, as well as all related adjustments and supporting calculations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to support SOX compliance.
  • Identify and support implementation of financial systems and process improvements, focusing on leveraging system automation to drive efficiencies.
  • Lead the preparation of annual audits by preparing audit schedules and financial statements, including financial statement notes and tie-outs, in close collaboration with external auditors.
  • Oversee accounts payable operations and expense report processing.
  • Mentor and manage Finance team personnel, providing guidance, performance feedback and professional development.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments, as well as independently, while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field with 9–12 years of progressive experience in public accounting and industry, or a master’s degree with 6-8 years of progressive experience, showing a deep understanding of financial operations.
  • CPA certification required
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting in a life sciences environment
  • Experience with clinical trial accounting, R&D cost tracking and collaboration or licensing arrangements highly preferred
  • Prior experience overseeing month-end close and preparation of financial statements required
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate and handle multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Exceptional organizational, problem solving, anticipatory and follow up skills
  • Proficiency in industry-standard accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, with advanced knowledge of Excel. Experience with NetSuite with knowledge of basic accounting system functionality highly desired.
