About the role
- Develop, implement, and maintain welding procedures, specifications, and standards in compliance with industry codes (AWS, ASME, ISO)
- Provide technical support for robotic and manual welding processes, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and high-quality output
- Evaluate weld designs, materials, and techniques to improve performance, reduce defects, and optimize cycle times
- Lead root cause analysis for weld-related quality issues and implement corrective/preventive actions
- Train and mentor production staff on welding best practices and equipment operation
- Work with cross-functional teams (Design, Manufacturing, Quality) to support new product introductions and production transitions
- Oversee qualification of welders and operators to meet regulatory and company standards
- Recommend and implement improvements in equipment, tooling, and fixturing to enhance welding accuracy and repeatability
- Maintain documentation of welding processes, compliance reports, and inspection records
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Solid understanding of welding metallurgy, processes, and inspection techniques
- Hands-on experience with robotic welding systems and manual welding methods (MIG, TIG, Stick, Resistance)
- Knowledge of welding codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, ISO, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose weld failures
- Proficiency in CAD software and/or weld simulation tools a plus
- Effective communication and leadership skills for training operators and collaborating with technical teams
