About the role
- Assist in bank reconciliations and month-end close
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports and community/fund financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow)
- Prepare monthly journal entries to record revenue, payroll, property management fees, and other accrued expenses
- Review and analyze general ledger accounts and prepare budget vs. actual variance reports
- Reconcile prepaid rent, property debt, security deposit refunds or liability, and accounts receivable for each property
- Record monthly debt service, borrower payments on note receivables, and reconcile restricted cash to lender statements
- Review the AP aging and ensure vendors are paid on-time; review and approve company expense reports
- Maintain the general ledger, roll forward fixed assets, and maintain investor capital accounts
- Assist with annual budget preparation and the annual external financial audit
- Support Community Managers, CapEx Team, and Business Ops with accounting activities and projects
- Navigate systems such as Manage America, Divvy, and Sage Intacct; participate in monthly financial performance reviews
- Communicate with cross-functional teams and demonstrate company core values
Requirements
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Familiar with accounting terminology and reconciling accounts
- Strict attention to detail and quality
- Excellent Excel skills
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Ability to be organized and detail-oriented and to work efficiently and accurately under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Self-starter who can identify a need, investigate a solution, and build a plan to address that need
- Strong ability to listen and communicate effectively through verbal and written forms with both internal employees and external customers
- Goal-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize
- The ability to use strong judgment and problem-solving skills when making decisions
