About the role
- Advising publishing colleagues on media law and related litigation
- Reading and vetting manuscripts with authors prior to publication
- Responding to potential legal claims
- Analyzing business/legal issues as they may apply to the company
- Overseeing copyright statutory terminations
- Advising on digital and traditional marketing and the sale of books
- Strategizing and managing litigation
- Assisting in other legal areas as the need arises
Requirements
- JD degree
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or media company
- Strong substantive knowledge of general media law issues, including defamation, copyright, trademark, right of publicity, advertising and related fields
- Substantial experience in federal and state litigation practice
- Understanding and awareness of publishing industry
- Practical knowledge of business law preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
