About the role

  • Reporting to the Centre Director, the Associate Director position is critical with responsibilities for assisting in the overall management, administration, development, co-ordination and monitoring of services in a correctional facility.
  • Responsible for the allocation of human, financial and material resources in a manner consistent with the efficient and orderly delivery of institutional services.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other correctional service agencies and government ministries, offender programs, courts, private agencies, and police agencies.
  • Manage all legal correspondence and provide required replies.
  • Be the centre representative in testifying in court for legal purposes.
  • Manage and respond to all Ombudsman, Human Rights and Office of the Privacy Commissioner requests.
  • Make recommendations to the Centre Director regarding branch and centre policies and procedures.
  • Direct supervisory responsibility for the remand centre's management team.
  • Constitute executive authority within the remand centre.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field (Criminology, Law Enforcement, Justice Studies, etc.)
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience (Deputy Director, Assistant Deputy Director, Director, Senior Manager)
  • Equivalencies: related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
  • Demonstrated management experience within a large-scale business operation and/or complex organization.
  • Related experience within a law enforcement agency, including most recent emergency management experience within the law enforcement and correctional environment
  • Preference will be given to candidates with direct management experience within the Correctional Services Division.
  • Post-secondary education and/or continued professional development in leadership, management, human resources, change management, or emergency management will be considered an asset.
