About the role
- Take strategic ownership of all billing and payment activity, including issuing more than £200m in invoices annually
- Manage the full Direct Debit lifecycle and ensure timely BACS processing and recovery for failed payments
- Lead a team of around 10 Billing and Payments specialists; oversee daily priorities, development, recruitment, and performance
- Ensure accurate and timely customer invoicing across domestic, SME, and I&C segments; manage exceptions and prevent unbilled revenue
- Analyse and deliver non-energy charges, reconciliations, and correct pass-through charges
- Drive billing quality: monitor data, identify process inefficiencies, ensure correct VAT application, and reduce regulatory exposure
- Own back-billing application and preventative actions in alignment with Industry Operations and Smart teams
- Ensure accurate payment allocation, control suspense accounts, and align Billing, Collections, and Allocations
Requirements
- Experience leading billing and payment processes (ideally in Energy)
- Strong analytical skills and ability to spot trends, risks, and opportunities in data
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements in billing and payments (e.g. VAT, Direct Debit Guarantee, GSOP)
- Collaborative approach and ability to build relationships with Finance, Operations, and Account Management
- Proven people leadership skills, experience managing, developing, and motivating a team
