About the role

  • Work directly with designers, release engineers, validation engineers, test engineers, and chief engineers to support vehicle dynamics and chassis loads and ride/handling assessments on GM Defense projects.
  • Build multi body dynamics models to establish optimized suspension and steering kinematic and compliance properties.
  • Virtually integrate chassis tuning parts to meet vehicle-level ride, handling and steering targets.
  • Optimize body and chassis structure cross-functionally with appropriate teams.
  • Predict chassis interface loads to facilitate body and chassis systems and create CAE load cases consistent with objective tests and subjective evaluations.
  • Integrate control systems as required for performance simulations and integrate cross-functional vehicle dynamics model including chassis & propulsion controls and physics.
  • Act as a single point of contact for users inside and outside of the team and continually improve fidelity of chassis/vehicle models.
  • Support/enable transition from hardware/on-road based development to lab and CAE environments through collaboration with vehicle development and objective test counterparts.

  • 5 years of Engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of automotive experience with Simpack and Carsim.
  • Experience with converting ADAMS/MotionView models to Simpack.
  • Experience with multibody and/or controls integration tools such as MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Experience with vehicle durability, pseudo-fatigue analysis and test lab support.
  • Proven ability to work in teams, balancing technical theory with practical limitations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Position subject to export control restrictions; candidate must be a U.S. Person or able to obtain required export control authorization.

  • Preferred: Advanced Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Civil, or Naval Engineering.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of related CAE engineering experience including FEA, Machine Learning or Spreadsheet solvers.
  • Preferred: Advanced project work in vehicle dynamics and/or multi body dynamics modeling.
  • Preferred: Experience in automotive chassis tuning and vehicle development.
  • Preferred: Experience with modeling deformable road surfaces.
  • Preferred: Experience with accelerated vibration profile generation from CAE simulation or test data.
  • Preferred: Experience with Military Specifications such as MIL-STD-810.
  • Preferred: Practical automotive experience - Building, restoring, modifying; Off-Road or Performance driving schools.
