About the role

  • The Director of Scientific Publications will lead the strategic planning, development, and execution of publications at GeneDx. This role will oversee the creation of high-quality, peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and other scientific communications that support the company’s clinical, research, and commercial objectives. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in medical writing, publication planning, and cross-functional collaboration within a genomics or biotech environment.\n
  • Job Responsibilities: Develop and lead publication planning to align with company strategy while continuing to increase GeneDx’s scientific reputation, including collaboration with internal stakeholders to align with product, market access, clinical adoption, and guidelines strategies.\n
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication of research findings to internal and external stakeholders, and provide scientific and medical expertise to support marketing, regulatory, and clinical teams.\n
  • Author and/or oversee the development of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.\n
  • Support manuscript submissions and revisions following reviewer comments for high-profile publications.\n
  • Support writing and preparation activities for grants, requests for proposals, and other similar activities.\n
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on publication development, including internal teams as well as external collaborators\n
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and compliance with industry and company standards for all publications.\n
  • Manage publication review, tracking, and communication processes.\n
  • Lead the development, management, and training of publication SOPs and processes.\n
  • People Manager: Yes; Lead and mentor internal and/or contract medical writers; Oversee resource allocation and workload across team members; Provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development support; Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.\n
  • Education, Experience, and Skills: Advanced degree (MS, PhD, MD or similar) in genetics, molecular biology, or a related life science field; Minimum 5 years of experience in medical writing and publication planning in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or diagnostics industry. 8+ years experience preferred; Proven track record of published work in peer-reviewed journals; Strong understanding of genomics, rare disease, and/or precision medicine; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reference management software (e.g. EndNote); Proficiency in data visualization and figure design to display data in an easily digestible format; Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills; Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, MD or similar) in genetics, molecular biology, or a related life science field.\n
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in medical writing and publication planning in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or diagnostics industry. 8+ years experience preferred.\n
  • Proven track record of published work in peer-reviewed journals.\n
  • Strong understanding of genomics, rare disease, and/or precision medicine.\n
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reference management software (e.g. EndNote).\n
  • Proficiency in data visualization and figure design to display data in an easily digestible format.\n
