About the role
- Lead and guide a small, dedicated Technical Animation team supporting the Animation Department
- Assign crew, ensure appropriate show casting and allocate tasks to team members
- Act as key contact for production and supervisor and coordinate with HOD
- Work closely with Leads of multiple departments (including Rigging and FX) to improve communication
- Collaborate with Pipeline Developers: testing, releasing software, debugging and guiding on errors
- Perform Maya-based shot fixes and animate primary and secondary characters and elements
- Provide front-line support to Animation Artists: troubleshoot assets and shots and assist problem-solving
- Establish workflow templates, approaches, and documentation for the team
- Manage and spec Technical Animation assignments and meet show schedules and deadlines
- Ensure department tools are available and properly set up for each show
- Work alongside the training team to follow through on learning and development needs
- Inform HOD of advances for integration into other shows
Requirements
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A thorough knowledge of Maya
- Working knowledge of Modelling and Rigging
- Experience in Mel/Python scripting and developing, supporting and testing tools
- Experience in Wiki documentations and using ticketing systems
- An understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form
- An understanding of rigs and typical rigging set-ups, animation pipelines, and transferring data between tools
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new processes and technical skills
- A love of puzzles and problem solving
- Experience in leading a team
- (Nice to have) Previous experience in a similar role
- (Nice to have) Experience as a CG Animator
- (Nice to have) Traditional animation and/or art background
- (Nice to have) Experience in Cloth, FX or Tracking
- (Nice to have) Experience in Jira and Confluence
