About the role

  • The Director for Network and Platform will put strategies in place that position Michigan Central as a platform where others come to succeed. Michigan Central has been on a journey where we have tested different concepts and programming and now we are at a point where we need to learn from those prototypes and either grow nascent ideas into full P&Ls or shift to a partner.
  • We have multiple grants and programs operating under the workforce bucket that need to aligned to our priorities and executed against, showing impact and job creation. This role will continue to refine the talent strategy to be differentiated, show immediate impact, and enable convenings that can capitalize on our programs. You will also be responsible for our strategic partners in this space, including: Boys and Girls Club, GVSU, WSU, UMCI, and future workforce partners that join the ecosystem. Your role is to find mutual value, while balancing capacity and impact.
  • This role will also be responsible for working across the network to find collaboration and strategic opportunities to bring partners together. We have been in a stage of growth and now are shifting into a season of operationalizing and differentiating – putting scaled operations in places where it is needed, and pivoting where it is needed.
  • The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who can direct a team but can also use their influence to bring together teams not under the purview for collaboration. This person has a background in workforce development, knows the gaps in the space and can position Michigan Central in a role that is beneficial but not duplicative. This person can work with philanthropy, government, and private industry to bring together disparate viewpoints into one strategy, and execute a shared vision back to them. This role has to balance strategy with doing and will need to dig into existing programs, understand the nuances, and then build the next steps with operational excellence.
