About the role
- Underwrite renewals, assumptions, annual reviews and ad-hoc requests for all commercial mortgage product types
- Adhere to established policies, underwriting standards, compliance and control requirements
- Provide timely solutions to clients to achieve service goals and annual retention targets
- Perform reporting and pipeline management and manage relationships with external partners and internal departments
- Ensure all lending criteria, including acceptable ROE thresholds, are satisfied and outstanding documentation/conditions are met
- Deliver superior customer service and communicate with partners, brokers, counsel, management, funders and coordinators to meet deadlines
- Contribute to special projects as assigned
- Make sound underwriting decisions independently, manage complex files, and follow corporate policies and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Proficient underwriting skills, preferably minimum 3-5 years’ commercial mortgage and/or SFR underwriting experience
- Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and corporate/legal documentation for commercial real estate across Canada
- Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) preferably in business or finance
- Bilingualism (French/English) is required
- Sound technical knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting and financial statement analysis
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word and Excel)
- Effective analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities
- Strong negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to communicate with Senior Management and Partners
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check to qualify for hire
