About the role

  • Underwrite renewals, assumptions, annual reviews and ad-hoc requests for all commercial mortgage product types
  • Adhere to established policies, underwriting standards, compliance and control requirements
  • Provide timely solutions to clients to achieve service goals and annual retention targets
  • Perform reporting and pipeline management and manage relationships with external partners and internal departments
  • Ensure all lending criteria, including acceptable ROE thresholds, are satisfied and outstanding documentation/conditions are met
  • Deliver superior customer service and communicate with partners, brokers, counsel, management, funders and coordinators to meet deadlines
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned
  • Make sound underwriting decisions independently, manage complex files, and follow corporate policies and regulatory requirements

Requirements

  • Proficient underwriting skills, preferably minimum 3-5 years’ commercial mortgage and/or SFR underwriting experience
  • Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and corporate/legal documentation for commercial real estate across Canada
  • Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) preferably in business or finance
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is required
  • Sound technical knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting and financial statement analysis
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills to communicate with Senior Management and Partners
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check to qualify for hire
