About the role
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of fire sprinkler system designers.
- Oversee the creation of system layouts and drawings from concept through to final construction documents.
- Ensure all designs comply with NFPA codes, local jurisdictional requirements, and project specifications.
- Coordinate design efforts with sales, estimating, project management, and field installation teams.
- Review and approve all design submissions for accuracy, efficiency, and code compliance.
- Manage project design timelines to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
- Provide technical guidance to resolve design issues and respond to RFI/submittal requests.
- Maintain and improve departmental processes, design standards, and best practices.
- Assist with training and development of junior designers.
- Track and report design team performance metrics to leadership.
- Stay current on industry codes, software tools, and technology improvements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fire sprinkler design.
- NICET Level III or IV in Water-Based Systems Layout (preferred).
- Proficient in AutoCAD, HydraCAD, and/or Revit (BIM experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, particularly NFPA 13, 14, and 20.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred but not required).
