About the role
- Perform a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
- Set up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
- Participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
- Maintain records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
- Compile data and record results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
- Assist lab personnel with analyzing biological data and performing basic biochemical experiments (cell culture, PCR, DNA/protein gels).
- Attend group meetings and present literature and experiences.
- Perform related responsibilities as required by principal investigator; follow safety precautions and possible immunization requirements when working with hazardous agents.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Preferred: experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Structural Biology in the research laboratory.
- Experience assisting lab personnel with analyzing biological data and performing basic biochemical experiments.
- Hands-on skills: cell culture; running PCR; DNA and protein gels.
- Ability to attend group meetings and present literature and experiences.
- Able to maintain records, files and logs in laboratory notebooks and computer databases; compile data for publications, grants and seminars.
- May be required to work with potentially hazardous agents and to take specific precautions or be immunized.
